SpaceX's Starship has set off fireworks again.

  1. Yes, once again, this time it exploded without completing the two-stage separation. It was doomed from the moment several engines failed to ignite at the beginning of the launch. However, from the team's perspective, they were still satisfied. At least it didn't explode directly during the launch.

  2. The world's largest carrier rocket and the world's largest interstellar spacecraft have always attracted the world's attention. In promotional terms, they "shoulder the mission of human colonization of Mars." If space travel also follows Moore's Law, then Musk is an explorer. With his own efforts, he has reduced the cost of space transportation from hundreds of millions of dollars to more than half. And once the Starship, this monster, succeeds, it means that the cost will drop by 90%.

  3. SpaceX is not listed, but its valuation is already very high. There was a saying before that the space internet, Starlink, would be listed separately, and the profits obtained could support future plans for colonizing Mars. Some people may ask why Musk is so eager for a lifeless planet like Mars?

  4. If we look at it from an idealistic perspective, Musk grew up watching Star Wars and was fascinated by the works of science fiction master Asimov. This also motivated him to strive for his ideals. However, I think ideals alone are not enough to support his dreams. Including the acquisition of Tesla, making it the largest electric vehicle brand, has brought him huge profits. And the idea of immigrating to Mars, or transforming Mars, will bring him and his company immeasurable wealth. Moreover, from a scientific point of view, according to the second law of thermodynamics, the order of entropy requires greater disorder from the outside to maintain it. If the development of the Earth reaches its limit without extraterrestrial colonization to sustain it, its own order cannot be maintained for long.

  5. Speaking of this, I suddenly thought that in Chinese history, the lifespan of all dynasties usually did not exceed 300 years before they ended. Apart from the absence of industrialization, the biggest problem was that there was an end to the internal maintenance of the dynasty, that is, internal circulation could not be achieved. This is an objective law that cannot be changed by human consciousness. In contrast, due to the birth of the Age of Discovery, Europe has seen one global empire after another. Once an empire loses its ability to globalize, its ability to maintain itself as an empire also ends.

  6. Technological progress is the antidote to all of this. Thanks to the birth of the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution, and the birth of the Renaissance can also be considered accidental, because the European Black Death wiped out a large number of maintainers of the old power system, religious leaders, etc., and people, facing death at any time, developed new insights into life, art, and so on. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused three years of outbreaks and the loss of nearly tens of millions of lives, I wonder if it will trigger a new Renaissance? Let's wait and see.

  7. Finally, let us pay tribute to the present, just like the failure of the Starship, perhaps it is a necessary process for future success.
